Shed ego, Baba urges devotees

BANGALORE: Aham tat na, (I am not the ego), Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba reminded followers on Monday. People should shed their egos and cultivate habits which develop self-confidence, he said.

Addressing a huge gathering of devotees on the occasion of Tamil New Year Day at Brindavan, Whitefield, on Monday, Baba said mankind could do itself much good by inculcating self-confidence. ‘‘You should develop confidence about yourself. Where there is confidence, there is love; where there is love, there is peace; where there is peace, there is truth; and where there is truth, there is God.’’

Emphasising the need to be truthful, Baba said truth alone could not be divided or differentiated in countries. ‘‘Today the world is facing lot of problems because of the lack of truth. People should speak truth and follow dharma (righteousness). Countries which nourish and protect satya (truth) and dharma (righteousness) will flourish and prosper.’’

Advising devotees to love all and serve all, he said: ‘‘You should look at your enemy with affection and love. Instead of staring at him, try to speak to him with love. It may take some time to melt an ice cube but not the human heart. You should win your enemy with love and affection.’’

Exhorting devotees to envision new ideas on the occasion of New Year, Baba said: ‘‘What is the use of celebrating the New Year if you can not develop new ideas and serve the society and the needy people. One should not search for God, who is in every one and omnipresent.’’

Advising devotees to lead a simple, peaceful life, Sri Satya Baba said: ‘‘Practice thyaga (sacrifice) which is yoga and shed bhoga (luxurious life) which is roga (disease),’’
